Project
Twist Tower
Date
2013

The design of this skyscraper in New York stems from the desire to express a dynamic force that rises without being trapped in constrictive patterns. It is the will to transmit architecturally all the strength and capacity of this city that is able to influence every corner of the world. The project foresees a skyscraper that as it grows it twists 35 ° until it reaches a height of 272 m. An angle chosen to favor a global vision of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline, increasing the prestige of the building. Initially the chosen shape of the plant was that of a square, to depart from the shape of the irregular lot and restore the regularity of the urban grid. Subsequently the idea evolved up to the conception of an octagonal plan with the four smaller angular sides compared to the other four that rising accentuate the torsion from the lower part. The building is designed to accommodate several offices in the lower part of the tower, about two per floor up to the 30th floor; hotels in the upper part with restaurants and at the top a panoramic floor. Furthermore, at the base, a five-storey shopping center is connected to the tower which, following the twisting movement, rotates together with it keeping the rotation fulcrum inside the tower core. Despite this dynamic synergy between the two buildings, they maintain their functional independence, visible already from the separate entrances and positioned on opposite sides of the lot so as not to affect in any way the carrying out of all the activities that are carried out at the internal, considering, above all, the large influx of people that the tower attracts.

Concept

Structure

The structure was designed to be built with a reinforced concrete core and steel beams and pillars. The building was then calculated using structural design software.
